President Uhuru Kenyatta's plan to establish a special task force to review the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report has hit a snag, courtesy of Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria.
On his Facebook page, Kuria expressed his intention to block the formation of the committee of experts, citing his strong support for the BBI report.
“Much as I strongly support the BBI report, I will vehemently oppose and block the formation of a committee of experts,” he stated.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had launched the report at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday, November 27, urging the public to embrace it and announcing a national forum to be held in January to discuss the BBI.
Kuria, however, expressed his skepticism about the report, suggesting that it was a 'Bonoko(fake) report' and that the actual one would be released by a 'Committee of Quacks'.
He warned the public to stay alert, justifying his intentions to block the move.
Uhuru had explained that the contents of the report mainly sought to unite the nation, contrary to claims that it would divide Kenyans.
“I urge you all to read and discuss the report extensively as we await January for the final decision,” Uhuru urged.
The formation of the committee of experts was set to save the country an expensive and potentially divisive referendum route.
Experts who discussed the report noted that its contents were already in the constitution and were only awaiting implementation.
