On November 26, 2019, the M-PESA Foundation Academy made history by becoming the first learning institution to be recognized as the Company of the Year at the East Africa CIO awards.
The 4-year-old school's innovative use of ICT in teaching and learning earned it two other awards, solidifying its position as a leader in education technology.
"We are honored to have been recognized for our integration of technology in the way we deliver education," said Paul Ngugi, Head of Technology and Learning Innovations, M-PESA Foundation Academy. "Our learners and teachers have fully embraced technology in the way they learn and teach, including the delivery of content, assessment, research, and presentations."
The institution's advanced infrastructure, which includes coding, animation, and robotics programs, has been instrumental in its success. As Paul Ngugi noted, "From the time they join, students are engaged in coding, animation, robotics, amongst other programs that make use of the advanced infrastructure that we have put in place."
The M-PESA Foundation Academy's commitment to providing a world-class learning environment has earned it recognition beyond East Africa. The institution's CEO, Les Baillie, stated, "We believe in offering a world-class, well-rounded learning environment to develop the future leaders of the African continent. The Academy places great emphasis on the holistic development of all our learners, not just in academics but also in technology, music, sports, the arts, outdoor pursuits, and community service."
As part of its efforts to promote STEM education, the M-PESA Foundation Academy partnered with the Airbus Foundation to launch the Little Engineer Program in Kenya. This program aims to encourage students between the ages of 10 and 16 to understand and embrace technology and ignite their passion for careers in STEM fields.
The M-PESA Foundation Academy offers full 4-year scholarships to economically disadvantaged students, providing them with a platform to succeed.
