On November 25, 2019, a Nairobi court issued conservatory orders suspending a gazette notice that had deregistered embattled Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion as a teacher pending determination of the case.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) boss Nancy Macharia had, in a notice released early November, banned Sossion from teaching in Kenya, citing section 30 of the TSC Act.
However, Employment and Labour Relations Court Justice Stephen Radido set aside the notice, thereby reinstating the KNUT boss back to the teacher’s register.
During the court proceedings, TSC was represented by lawyer Timon Oyucho, who sought to uphold the notice as well as expunge the name of Ms. Macharia from the case.
But Sossion’s lawyer, Paul Muite, argued that problems in the teaching service emanate from the individual of Ms. Macharia, hence her name must remain as first respondent in the case.
