Embu residents are living in fear after a security guard was hacked to death by unknown thugs at Kianjokoma market in Embu North last night.
According to eyewitnesses, the thugs broke into several shops, killing one guard and seriously beating up another using blunt objects.
Joseph Kanyi, a resident near the market, claimed that the thugs are taking advantage of the curfew hours to break into shops, leaving locals vulnerable to theft.
'We are going to take the law into our hands if police officers will not protect our property and life,' Kanyi said.
Residents have accused police of laxity, citing the recent killing of a night guard in Embu town and the theft of valuable goods from several shops.
Police have been urged to increase patrols and beef up security at night to contain the rising cases of insecurity in the area.
