Kenya's Interior Minister Fred Matiang'i, his counterpart Eugene Wamalwa, and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai were on their way to Pokot West to visit those affected by the recent landslides.
However, their plane was forced to land in Eldoret due to bad weather conditions.
Speaking to journalists in Eldoret on November 25, 2019, Matiang'i said they were on their way to Kapenguria Hospital to visit the affected individuals and meet with county leaders.
"We are disappointed, but we have no choice but to wait for the Meteorological Department to ensure our safety before proceeding with our trip," Matiang'i said.
He also appealed to residents living in highland areas to relocate immediately to prevent further disasters.
Wamalwa, on the other hand, assured the affected individuals that the government would provide them with the necessary assistance, including food and clothing.
At least 52 people have been reported dead, while over 10,000 have been left homeless following the landslides that hit several villages in Pokot West.
