Jowie's Life Behind Bars: A Glimpse into the Challenges of Incarceration

Joseph Irungu, known as Jowie, has been incarcerated since his arrest in connection with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani. In a rare interview, Jowie shared his experiences of life behind bars, highlighting the difficulties he faces in his daily life.

According to Jowie, he is only allowed to see his family for 10 minutes every Tuesday, a restriction imposed by the prison authorities. His family travels from Nakuru to Kiambu every week to visit him, a journey that takes them four hours.

"They leave Nakuru at 10 am and arrive here at 4 pm to see me for a few minutes," Jowie said in an interview with Daily Nation on November 24.

Despite the challenges he faces, Jowie has found solace in the support of his family. "Through their love, I have found hope," he said.

However, Jowie's life in prison is not without its challenges. He is not allowed to interact with other inmates, and his time is spent reading books and watching the sun. He also struggles with mental health issues, including depression and anxiety.

"I have no freedom to interact with other inmates. I spend my time reading books and watching the sun," Jowie said.

He also spoke about the challenges of coping with mental health issues in prison. "I have no freedom to interact with other inmates. I spend my time reading books and watching the sun," Jowie said.

Despite the challenges he faces, Jowie remains hopeful. "I have found hope through the love of my family," he said.

His case has been in the news since his arrest, with many calling for his release. However, Jowie remains in prison, awaiting trial.

On November 28, the court will hear his application for bail, which was denied earlier. Jowie's co-accused, Jacque Maribe, was released on a KSh 2 million bail or KSh 1 million cash bail.

Maribe and Jowie were arrested in connection with the murder of Monica Kimani, whose body was found in a bathtub in a rented apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi.
