On November 23, 2019, the Kenya Police boxing team clinched the national league title for the second year in a row, solidifying their dominance in the sport.
At the Ofafa Memorial Hall in Kisumu, the law enforcers secured a total of 29 points, leaving their arch-rivals, the Kenya Defence Forces, with 42 points in the overall tally.
The victory earned the Kenya Police team the Jamal Trophy, which was presented to their captain, Elly Ajowi, who is also the national heavyweight champion.
“Winning and losing is part of the game and we must always accept the verdict of judges. We must also thank the federation for a job well done,” Ajowi told Standard Sports.
Assistant coach Blackmoses Mathenge of the Kenya Defence Forces praised his team for finishing runner-up despite missing the first three legs of the league championships.
“Had we started off with the policemen on an equal footing, I’m definitely sure we could have won the league title or lost by a few points. Next season, we’ll go for the title” Mathenge said in the company of Team Manager Ben Maingi.
