Jose Mourinho has taken the reins at Tottenham, hoping to salvage the team's season and silence the doubters.
With the team currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, Mourinho believes the quality of players he has at his disposal does not belong in such a lowly position.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Mourinho emphasized the importance of getting results in the short term, stating, "It is important in the Premier League we need to disappear from the area where we do not belong."
Spurs start the weekend 11 points adrift of the top four, having taken just 25 points from their last 24 Premier League matches.
Mourinho has spent 11 months out of the game since being sacked by Manchester United in December, and he cut a far more introspective figure as he briefed the media on Thursday than the man who announced himself as "the special one" during his first press conference as Chelsea manager 15 years ago.
"I always thought that these 11 months were not a waste of time. These 11 months were months to think, to analyse, to prepare and anticipate things," added Mourinho.
Despite his reputation as a successful manager, Mourinho's appointment at Tottenham has been met with skepticism by some fans, who are concerned that his style of play may not be an easy fit with the team's traditional brand of attacking football.
However, Mourinho is confident that he can adapt his style to suit the players he has at his disposal, stating, "The style of play has to be always adapted not just to the club culture, but especially to the players' qualities."
Mourinho's first test as Tottenham manager will come on Saturday, when the team faces West Ham in a crucial Premier League match.
