On July 17, 2021, Zambia's Football Association (FAZ) made a significant move in the world of football, announcing the departure of head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic from his position as Chipolopolo head coach.
The decision came after a series of disappointing results, including a shocking exit from the COSAFA Cup at the hands of Lesotho and Eswatini.
According to a statement released by FAZ, the decision to part ways with Micho was a mutual one, reached after a meeting between the coach and FAZ officials at Football House.
FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala explained the reasoning behind the decision, stating, 'After a meeting between FAZ and the coach, it was agreed that in the interest of progress for both parties they had to separate.'
Micho, who had been at the helm of the Chipolopolo since February 3, 2020, expressed gratitude to the Zambian people, players, coaches, officials, and fans for their support during his tenure.
'I am grateful to the Zambian people, the players, coaches, officials and the fans who supported me in various ways during my stay. All the positive experience with Chipolopolo Zambia I will use in my career ahead and would like to wish all the best to Zambia,' Micho said.
FAZ has thanked Micho for his service and wished him the best of luck in his future endeavors. The association will announce its succession roadmap in the coming days.
