Jose Mourinho has been named Tottenham manager, replacing Mauricio Pochettino who was sacked this week after a disappointing start to the season.

Speaking to the media for the first time on Thursday, Mourinho acknowledged that he has had time to reflect on his previous managerial mistakes, including his stint at Manchester United where he was sacked in December last year.

"I always thought that these 11 months were not a waste of time. They were months to think, to analyse, to prepare," Mourinho said.

He added that he has learned from his mistakes and is now stronger, more relaxed, motivated, and ready to take on the new challenge at Tottenham.

"I am ready to support the players, this is not about me. It is about the club. I am here to try and help everyone," Mourinho said.

He also reserved praise for his predecessor Pochettino, saying that the door will always be open for him and that he will find happiness again.

"He can come when he wants. When he misses the players, when he misses the people he worked with. The door is always open for him. He will find happiness again. He will find a great club again. He will have a great future," Mourinho said.
