Former presidential candidate Martha Karua has cautioned President Uhuru Kenyatta against seeking a premiership position after the 2022 elections, citing Kenyans' growing dissatisfaction with his leadership.
Published on November 21, 2019, Karua argued that the two-term limit set by the 2010 Constitution was designed to prevent leaders from staying in power for more than ten years.
'As a good friend, I am telling the president to resist the temptation of presiding over an unconstitutional post. Finish your term and let someone else take the mantle because Kenyans are tired,' Karua advised.
At the same time, Karua hinted at her potential return to national politics in 2022, stating that her middle name is not 'deputy' and that there is no seat reserved for specific individuals.
She emphasized the need for women to come together and articulate their irreducible minimums, urging them to focus on championing women's rights rather than engaging in divisive politics.
Other speakers at the women's conference, including Rachel Shebesh and Beatrice Elachi, also called for mature politics and an end to unnecessary wordplay among women leaders.
