On November 20, 2019, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) lifted a suspension on Kifaru and Dola maize flour brands, stating they are now fit for human consumption.

The suspension was initially imposed due to the brands' failure to meet the required standards.

KEBS commended Alpha Grain Millers for promptly stopping production of the affected product and conducting a successful recall exercise.

However, the agency urged the firm to maintain compliance with its products to avoid future legal action.

The two brands were among five maize flour brands suspended over the sale of substandard flour, reportedly contaminated with high levels of cancer-causing aflatoxins.
