Naivasha Dry Port, a KSh 6.9 billion project, is now under construction. The government aims to complete the port by the end of December this year.

According to Naivasha Sub-county Commissioner, Mathioya Mbogo, the road linking the port to the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is nearly complete. Additionally, the fencing of the 1,000 acres has been finished, and electricity connection has been finalized.

Speaking during a tour of the construction site, Commissioner Mbogo stated, 'Works on the port are at an advanced stage. Many of our local youth have been employed at this site. We expect the Inland Container Depot to be ready by the end of this year.'

Commissioner Mbogo further announced that the first batch of 51 families, which have been displaced by the construction, will be resettled starting this week.

President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched the Naivasha dry port last month. The Cabinet approved a KSh 6.9 billion budget for the development of the port in September this year to boost the standard gauge railway operations.

The funds will be used to develop an inland container depot, railway marshalling yard, logistics zone, and public utility area, as well as fund other core enabling infrastructure to support the development of the Naivasha Special Economic Zone.
