On November 19, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Margaret Nyakango as the new Controller of Budget, a move that has raised eyebrows about equity in government appointments.
Nyakango, a Certified Public Accountant and member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, will face the Committee on Finance and National Planning for vetting before being approved by the President.
She was among 15 applicants who had applied for the position, which has not been contentious and is expected to sail through easily.
Nyakango currently works at the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics and has also worked as a finance director of Africa International University.
She holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK, and has conducted research on Strategic Workforce Planning within the Kenyan context.
The nominee is also a member of the Association of Women Accountants of Kenya, where she mentors young aspiring women professionals.
