On Tuesday, 19 November 2019, Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), held a crucial meeting with Nairobi County Assembly Members (MCAs) at the Chungwa House.
During the meeting, Raila emphasized the importance of checks and balances in county governments, urging the MCAs to ensure smooth running of the county and effective service delivery to the people.
According to Philip Etale, ODM's Director of Communication, Raila warned the MCAs against constant wrangles over leadership, terming it a 'big blow to the fruits of devolution.'
As Raila put it, 'We fought so hard for devolution and we should not make it fail by frequent wrangling, you must defend it at all costs.'
Raila also tasked the new Minority Leader, David Njilithia Mberia, to ensure equal representation of party and MCAs coalition in the committees of the assembly to avoid issues amongst themselves.
With this stern warning, Raila Odinga has sent a clear message to Nairobi MCAs to put the interests of the people above party politics.
