Kenya's Harambee Starlets are set to face Djibouti in a crucial Cecafa tournament match on Tuesday, aiming to secure a semi-finals ticket. The match is scheduled to kick off at 2pm at Chamazi Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Starlets are currently tied with Uganda on 3 points but trail behind in goal difference, following Uganda's 13-0 win against Djibouti in their opening match. Kenya, on the other hand, secured a 2-0 win against Ethiopia in their opener.
Head coach David Ouma expressed confidence in his team's chances, citing their 2-0 win against Ethiopia as a motivating factor. The team's goals were scored by 17-year-old midfielder Jentrix Shikangwa and Cynthia Shilwatso in the 79th and 82nd minutes, respectively.
“Djibouti is an unfamiliar opponent for us, but based on their match against Uganda, we have a good chance of doing well. We are not complacent but well-prepared to meet them. We hope to get to the final and capitalise on our energy and pace to win it,” Ouma said.
Kenya finished fourth in last year's championship, losing 1-0 to Djibouti in Kigali, Rwanda. The top two teams from each group will proceed to the semi-finals, with the winners of Group A facing the runners-up of Group B, and vice versa.
