Kenya's top KCPE 2019 candidates have been announced by Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, with Andy Michael Munyiri leading the pack with 440 marks.
Three students tied for second place with 439 marks: Flavian Onyango, June Cheptoo, and Sean Ndung'u.
According to the CS, a total of 527,294 boys (50.1%) and 525,070 girls (49.9%) sat for the KCPE examinations in 2019.
Notably, there was a drop in the number of candidates who scored 400 marks, from 11,000 in 2018 to 9,770 this year.
The best performing counties were Nairobi, Kakamega, and Nakuru, while Lamu, Isiolo, and Samburu performed the least in the exams.
CS Magoha stated that the government is targeting 100 percent transition of pupils to secondary schools, with Form One selection scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
By December 2, all pupils who sat for this year's KCPE exams will have been placed in secondary schools, according to the CS.
Additionally, the government will be offering 9,000 scholarships to students from marginalized counties and informal settlements in urban areas.
The government has also set aside Ksh8 million to improve schools infrastructure in 110 sub-counties, in 30 counties.
