On November 15, 2019, Egerton University Vice Chancellor, Prof Rose Awuor Mwonya, emphasized the importance of cultural diversity and national integration during the university's cultural week celebrations at the Njoro campus.

Prof Mwonya noted that Egerton University is a melting pot of rich cultural backgrounds from the 42 communities in Kenya, with all communities well represented in the student body.

"All communities in Kenya are well represented in the students' numbers at Egerton and I urge students to interact freely and learn the cultures of other communities," said Prof Mwonya.

She encouraged students to diversify their communication skills to avoid stereotyping other communities, and to appreciate each other's cultures to enjoy their academic experience.

"When you learn about other communities you will learn how to live and study together to become better students," said Prof Mwonya.

During the event, students showcased various foods and traditional attire from their communities, including international students.

"It is important to learn how to appreciate each other and cultures to enjoy what you are doing," added Prof Mwonya.

The vice-chancellor also announced plans to secure internships for students outside the country, promoting unity within and outside the university's borders.
