On November 15, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta met with leaders from the Mount Kenya region at Sagana State Lodge, sparking a heated debate about the future of the Jubilee party.
Deputy President William Ruto, who had been silent on social media during the meeting, broke his silence on November 16, 2019, and delivered a scathing attack on his critics.
"As the president stated yesterday, the false prophets and conmen who have been spreading rumors about problems and disunity in Jubilee now have a better understanding from our party leaders that Jubilee is united," Ruto said.
He accused his critics of falsely prophesying the death of Jubilee as a party and spreading rumors about the same.
"The aim of the Jubilee party is to unite Kenyans as we focus on development issues," Ruto added.
The Deputy President was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who also reiterated that unity is key in Kenya's progress.
Although the meeting was a closed-door affair, sources revealed that President Kenyatta gave express orders that the leaders should support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
