On November 16, 2019, Tecno unveiled its new HiOS 5.5 skin, which promises to bring a range of exciting features to the company's latest devices.
Among the new features is an AR Virtual Canvas, which allows users to bring art to life with augmented reality by turning 'fingers into sculptural brushes that you can use to paint in midair.'
Another notable feature is the Gesture Call Picker, which enables users to receive and end calls using simple hand gestures.
Tecno has also introduced a dedicated Game Mode and a Game Assistant, which promise to greatly improve gaming by killing some processes in order to concentrate the available resources to gaming.
One interesting addition to HiOS 5.5 is a feature known as Closed Eye Detection, which allows facial recognition to authenticate even with eyes closed. However, this feature has raised security concerns, as it means someone else can unlock your phone even when you are asleep.
Google has already addressed this issue on its Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL devices, which have a more secure 3D Face unlock system that prevents unlocking with eyes closed.
Perhaps the most useful feature of HiOS 5.5 is the fingerprint password reset, which allows users to reset their forgotten password/pattern/passcode using a fingerprint.
Despite the exciting new features, Tecno has not mentioned which devices will receive the HiOS 5.5 update, leaving many fans wondering if they will be left behind.
