On November 16, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta met with opposition leader Raila Odinga at the Sagana State Lodge, a meeting that has been shrouded in controversy. According to secret recordings shared by Dennis Itumbi, the President reiterated his commitment to the Jubilee party and addressed the resolutions of the Sagana Declaration.
Itumbi took to social media to share the recordings, which he claimed were made during the meeting. However, the authenticity of the recordings and the Sagana Declaration have been questioned by some, with one Abdullahi alleging that Itumbi's version was a fake.
Quoting the President, Itumbi wrote: “I am still in Jubilee. As Jubilee we had a candidate in Kibra. Even when I speak to the old man (read @Raila Odinga) we do not talk about how he will rise politically. We only talk about peace…”
The meeting, which was attended by over 4000 guests, was reportedly a closed-door affair, with speakers instructed to use local languages and guests barred from carrying phones and recording electronics.
