On July 27, 2021, a post-mortem examination was conducted on the body of Caroline Kangogo, a policewoman who was found dead at her parents' bathroom in Nyawa village, Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet county, two weeks prior.
The autopsy report, conducted by government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor, revealed that Kangogo died from a single gunshot wound. However, Dr. Oduor was cautious in his findings, stating that further laboratory testing was required to determine whether the death was a result of suicide or homicide.
The autopsy showed that the bullet entered through the right chin, pierced through the spine, and damaged her brain before exiting through the left side of the skull. Dr. Oduor noted that the gun was close to the skin on the right side of the chin and that there was a gunshot wound on the left side of the head just above the ear.
Despite the findings, the cause of Kangogo's death remains unclear. Her father, Mzee Barnabas Kibor, initially believed that she had taken her own life, but the public and experts have disputed this theory. A Ceska pistol, serial number G4670, was recovered from the scene, but its significance in determining the cause of death is still unclear.
