On November 15, 2019, Major Peter Mugure, a Kenyan army officer, was arrested in connection with the disappearance of his estranged partner, Joyce Syombua, and their two children, 20 days prior.

According to Nanyuki DCI boss Jacob Mureithi, the suspect was arrested on Friday, after an investigation into the disappearance of Syombua and her children, Shanice Maua and Prince Michael.

The children went missing on October 25, after visiting Major Mugure at his residence in Nanyuki.

Major Mugure had previously been ordered by a court of law to pay maintenance costs for his children, following DNA tests that proved his paternity.

During the investigation, Major Mugure initially claimed that he had dropped off Syombua and the children at the main bus stage, but later changed his story.

It is alleged that Syombua and the children spent the night at the Laikipia Airbase, where Major Mugure is stationed, before proceeding to Kirimara Springs Hotel for a late lunch and possibly a family night out.

However, what happened next remains a mystery.
