On November 14, 2019, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed reiterated the government's commitment to supporting sports and talent development in Kenya.
Speaking at a joint meeting between officials of the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS), Kenya Youth Inter County Sports Association (KYISA), and county governments' sports representatives at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, CS Amina emphasized the government's focus on creating an ideal environment for sports development.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's keen interest in sports and talent development was highlighted by CS Amina, who assured that the Ministry is working to realize this agenda.
Ms. Amina commended the sports agencies for their role in scouting and developing talents at the grassroots level, vowing to support their efforts to nurture talented youth to compete at professional levels.
She also acknowledged the contributions of Alive and Kicking and GIZ in growing talents and sports in Kenya, expressing her support for their efforts.
Some key resolutions reached at the meeting included the KAS-KYISA partnership in talent scouting and development, approval for Busia County to host the next KYISA games, creation of regional satellite academies, and extension of academy sessions to 60 days.
Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri, who attended the event, called for a re-evaluation of the scouting process to ensure transparency and impartiality in identifying talents that can compete at the international level.
