Healing Through Yoga: Catherine Njeri's Journey

Published on November 15, 2019

Catherine Njeri, a 33-year-old yoga instructor, has a remarkable story of healing and transformation. Growing up in a toxic environment, Njeri struggled with anger issues and felt hopeless about her future. However, her life took a dramatic turn when she discovered yoga in 2007.

It was during a visit to an IDP camp in Kenya that Njeri first encountered yoga. A woman named Paige Elenson was teaching yoga to the camp residents, and Njeri was intrigued by the way it brought people together and changed their mood. Njeri decided to join and train as a yoga teacher in 2009, when Paige co-founded Africa Yoga Project (AYP) in Kenya.

Through her training, Njeri discovered the benefits of Baptiste yoga, which incorporates physical postures, meditation, and inquiry. She became a certified Africa Yoga Project and Baptiste yoga teacher and now leads training with Baptiste Institute. Njeri is also a full-time Director of Training at Africa Yoga Project and teaches at a pop-up yoga studio in Nairobi.

Njeri's journey with yoga has been life-changing. She credits it with helping her confront her pain and anger, and find forgiveness and purpose. She now has a wonderful relationship with her mother, who has overcome her addiction. Njeri's story is a testament to the transformative power of yoga and its ability to heal even the deepest wounds.

As a yoga instructor, Njeri loves creating world-class leaders through yoga. She understands the challenges faced by children from poor backgrounds and is able to help them from a perspective of personal experience. Njeri's story is an inspiration to anyone who has struggled with trauma or feels hopeless about their future.
