FIFA has announced the appointment of Arsene Wenger as its new Chief of Global Football Development, a move that is set to take effect immediately.
Wenger, a highly respected figure in the football world, was welcomed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino to the body's headquarters in Zurich on November 13, 2019.
As the new Chief of Global Football Development, Wenger will be responsible for overseeing the development and growth of football, both for men and women, around the world.
He will also be in charge of technical matters, serving as the Chairman of the FIFA Technical Study Group and a member of the Football and Technical Advisory Panels.
Wenger's role will include a focus on coach education, as well as offering contributions to an executive programme aimed at encouraging former professional players to enter management.
"I very much look forward to taking on this extremely important challenge," Wenger said in a statement. "FIFA's mission as world football's governing body is truly global, and I believe that the new FIFA has the sport itself at the very heart of its objectives."
FIFA President Gianni Infantino welcomed Wenger's appointment, praising his vast knowledge and passion for football. "Arsene Wenger's profound knowledge and passion for the different aspects of our game sets him apart as one of the most respected personalities in football," Infantino said.
