On November 11, 2019, a disturbing video surfaced showing police officers brutally beating a student from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) during a demonstration.

Following public pressure and a viral video, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has identified three of the four officers involved in the incident.

NPSC Chairman Eliud Kinuthia announced the identities of the officers as George Wathania, Jonathan Kibet, and Boniface Muthama during a media briefing on November 13, 2019.

The fourth officer remains unidentified, with Kinuthia citing the need for assurance and accuracy in the identification process.

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai had interdicted the four officers on November 12, 2019, pending an investigation into the use of excessive force.

Two of the officers are stationed at Makongeni and Juja Police Stations, and representatives of the JKUAT students' body have recorded statements from 17 students at the Juja Police Station.
