Published on November 12, 2019, Kenyan judges are urging the government to allocate more funds to tackle the growing number of human trafficking cases in the country.

According to the director of the Judiciary Training Institute, Judge Kathurima M'inoti, there is a need to allocate more funds for the training of staff to prosecute human trafficking cases effectively.

Speaking at a human trafficking forum in Nairobi, Judge M'inoti noted that most judges, magistrates, and prosecutors lack proper training on handling such cases, which are complex due to their international angle.

The forum, attended by 50 Kenyan judges and magistrates, was organized by the Attorney General Africa Alliance Partnership and will run for three days.

The call for increased funding comes just days after Chief Justice David Maraga criticized the Executive for slashing the Judiciary's budget by Sh3 billion, citing revenue deficits and the need to raise funds for President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four agenda.
