On November 7, 2019, Governor Hassan Joho of Mombasa County was admitted to a hospital in Mombasa after being diagnosed with malaria.
Former President of Nigeria Olesegun Obasanjo visited Joho in the hospital on November 8, 2019, and wished him a speedy recovery.
According to Richard Chacha, the Chief Communications Officer of Mombasa County, Joho was admitted to the hospital after doctors discovered he had contracted malaria.
Chacha stated that Obasanjo was in Mombasa for a Future Cities conference, where Joho was expected to deliver a speech, but Joho's condition prevented him from attending.
Chacha added that Joho is recovering well and may be discharged from the hospital at any time.
