Published on November 8, 2019, a story on KTN News highlighted the unusual eating habits of Sharon Chepchirchir and her sister Lydia Chepkemboi from Kibochi Village in Nandi county.
While many people enjoy snacks like crisps, biscuits, and chocolate bars, these two young women have a different favorite snack - a bar of soap.
According to Chepchirchir, she has been eating soap since she was five years old, and 19 years later, it remains her favorite snack.
She discovered her sister had the same secret habit six years ago, and this brought them closer as they would borrow soap from each other.
When Chepchirchir got pregnant, she was worried that her soap-eating habits would affect her unborn child, but her doctor assured her that her habit was harmless.
However, Chepchirchir has struggled to tame her urge to eat soap for the past two years, even seeking divine intervention, but to no avail.
Chepkemboi, on the other hand, enjoys eating soap and has worked hard to hide her bizarre habit from her friends, who say she is not normal.
Their mother, Monica Jebet, has expressed her frustration trying to stop her girls from eating soap without success.
