On November 8, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto took to Twitter to congratulate Imran, the winner of the Kibra by-election, while also serving notice to the ODM party.

According to Ruto, the Jubilee Party had managed to double their support in Kibra in the concluded by-election to 26% compared to 12% which they registered during the 2017 general election.

He noted that the polls had shown that his political faction was making headway in Raila's perceived stronghold, and that the party used the by-election to serve notice to the dominant ODM party in the area.

Imran, the winner of the by-election, secured 24,636 votes, while McDonald Mariga, the Jubilee candidate, garnered 11,230 votes.

Despite the defeat, Mariga was congratulated by Ruto for putting up a spirited fight, and Imran agreed to work with Mariga and uphold their friendship.

The by-election was marred with various scuffles, including Mariga being chased out of one of the polling stations in Kibra and two other individuals being arrested after they were caught red-handed bribing voters.
