Published on November 7, 2019, Kenya Ports Authority men's team is gearing up to exploit new rules in the Basketball Africa League, which allow teams to recruit more foreign players.

Team manager Christopher Ogutu said preparations for the second round Eastern Division games in Rwanda, starting from December 16, have begun in earnest. He expects stiff competition from Ferraviario of Maputo, City Oilers of Uganda, and home team Patriots of Rwanda.

Under the new Fiba rules, teams can now recruit five foreign players, up from two, with the option to include two from outside Africa, two from within Africa, and one naturalized player.

"This is an opportunity we must exploit during the Eastern Division championships because we need an extra superb point guard and two polished post players to make our team complete," Ogutu said.

The team qualified for the second round after dominating Group F games in Madagascar, emerging tops with maximum eight points. They will now face six other teams in the Eastern Division second round qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda.
