Kenya has lifted the ban on flights between Nairobi and London, effective immediately, following the UK's removal of Kenya from its 'red list' due to Covid-19.
The ban, initially imposed in April, was extended until June 5, but Kenya countered by suspending its passenger flights to the UK.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all flight restrictions between Kenya and the UK have been lifted, with passengers required to adhere to strict measures set by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.
Passengers arriving in Kenya must present a valid Covid-19 negative PCR test certificate conducted within 96 hours before travel, except for children below 5 years.
Additionally, travellers must self-isolate for seven days upon arrival and take a subsequent PCR test four days after arrival.
They will also be required to submit daily health information, including the results of their second PCR test, on the Jitenge platform/app for 14 consecutive days.
The lifting of the ban is expected to boost tourism, with the UK traditionally being a top source market for Kenya. In 2019, the UK emerged fourth on the ranking, with 181,484 tourists visiting the country.
