On November 7, 2019, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale visited Kibra's Laini Saba, where he was met with hostility by rowdy youths.
According to eyewitnesses, Khalwale was on his way to the YMCA Polling Station to supervise the by-election when he was confronted by the youths.
Video footage shows Khalwale being chased by the crowd, with one stone hurled at the group as they walked away from the scene.
Hours after the incident, Khalwale told journalists that the election process was going smoothly and that ODM had become scared, leading to bribery claims.
“We have mobilized very well and that is why ODM is running scared and making claims of voter bribery,” Khalwale said.
Earlier in the day, there was drama at Mashimoni polling station after two people were allegedly caught bribing voters during the ongoing Kibra mini-poll.
The two suspects, including an employee of Lang'ata CDF office, were later whisked into awaiting police vehicles amid jeers from the irate voters.
