On November 7, 2019, gospel singer Owen Mwatia, aka Daddy Owen, opened up about his brother Roy Smith Mwatia, aka Rufftone, and his interests in politics.
According to Owen, his brother has a knack for politics and should consider vying for the senator seat in Kakamega County.
He cited Rufftone's involvement in Jubilee's 2013 and 2017 election wins as evidence of his brother's potential in politics.
"He is always affiliated with politics. He helped Jubilee win the 2013 and 2017 elections," Owen said.
When asked to advise his brother, Owen suggested that Rufftone should vie for the senator seat in Kakamega County, just like Jaguar did.
"If I was to advise him, I would tell him to vie for senator in Kakamega. If Jaguar did it, so can he," Owen said.
Owen also praised his brother's leadership skills, saying that he is a man of his words and can lead better than many politicians.
"If you are a sober leader, it does not matter what field you come from. There is nowhere it is written that a leader should come from this or that field," Owen told Word Is.
However, Rufftone dismissed the idea of becoming a politician, saying that his association with politicians does not mean he wants to join politics.
"Does it mean that when someone walks with politicians it is automatic they will join politics?" Rufftone posed.
"I happen to have political friends and when I believe in their vision, I support them. Does it mean that when I go for coffee with you, I want to be a media person? I support my friends, I am a loyal friend and I put my mouth where my heart is," Rufftone added.
