Published on November 7, 2019, Lakers are gearing up for a crucial weekend in the Kenya Hockey Union Women Premier League. The team, fifth with 15 points from 11 matches, will face relegation-threatened JKUAT and league leaders Telkom.
According to Captain Linnah Baraza, the team's recent losses were a wake-up call, and they are determined to finish among the top three. Baraza emphasized that they have been working on rebuilding their confidence when playing away.
"We were very disappointed with the loss in Nairobi last month. We failed to convert our chances which cost us in the end. However, we have been working on rebuilding our confidence when playing away," she said.
Baraza also expressed confidence in the team's ability to stop defending champions Telkom, who are joint-top in the standings with 26 points. "The team has been training well and we are working on correcting defensive mistakes. We are going to be aggressive when we play JKUAT and Telkom. We know it will be hard against the champions, but we believe we can stop them," she said.
Jacky Mwangi's brace helped Telkom draw 2-2 with Lakers during the first leg in Kisumu, and Telkom coach Jos Openda has promised a thrilling win against the Kisumu-based side.
