Published on November 6, 2019, a suspect in the murder of Ivy Wangechi, a Moi University medical student, has applied for a plea bargain. Naftali Kinuthia, the prime suspect, has been in Eldoret GK remand prison since his arrest eight months ago.

According to his lawyer, Mbiyu Kamau, Kinuthia wants to enter a plea bargain with the Director of Public Prosecutions in exchange for a lesser charge. The High Court in Eldoret was informed of this development on Tuesday.

However, the prosecution had lined up seven witnesses, including Ivy's mother, Winfred King'ori, who was expected to testify on Tuesday. But the trial was adjourned to March 26, 2020, to allow the defence time to file the plea bargain and go through additional evidence.

Ms King'ori expressed her disappointment at the adjournment, stating that she had travelled from Nyeri to Eldoret ready to testify. She vowed to continue fighting for justice until the end.

The suspect, who was armed with an axe and a knife, allegedly attacked and killed the medical student outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret in April. Kinuthia has denied killing Wangechi.
