On November 6, 2019, Arsenal manager Unai Emery announced that Granit Xhaka would no longer be the club's captain following a confrontation with fans.

Granit Xhaka was involved in an ugly confrontation with Arsenal fans on October 27, 2019, who booed him when he was substituted against Crystal Palace in a 2-2 draw.

According to Unai Emery, he had a meeting with Xhaka and told him he was no longer in the captain's group.

"I had a meeting with him and told him he is no longer in the captain's group," Unai Emery explained.

Unai Emery added that Xhaka accepted his decision and that he needed to take a decision and now it's closed.

"He accepted my decision. I needed to take a decision and now it's closed," Unai Emery said.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been appointed as the new Arsenal captain.

Granit Xhaka joined Arsenal in a £35m move from German side Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 and played in the 2017 FA Cup final as Arsenal beat Chelsea.

He was also in the squad that faced Chelsea in the final of the 2018/19 Europa League in which the Gunners were beaten.

Arsenal are currently occupying fifth position on the Premier League standings, and they will face Leicester City in their next match.
