On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital when a woman, being pursued by the police, stripped naked in an attempt to evade arrest.

The woman, a well-known chang'aa brewer in Kayole, had visited the hospital to check on three customers who had sustained gunshot wounds during a confrontation with police on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, when the woman realized she was being followed by police, she removed her clothes, including her underwear, and began screaming, claiming she was being unfairly targeted.

She then entered the hospital and hid as officers who were trailing her waited outside, expecting her to come out.

One of the women she had joined handed her a shawl, but the police eventually apprehended her and took her to Soweto police post, where she is being detained.

The incident occurred after police raided her chang'aa den in Soweto on Saturday, sparking protests that led to the shooting of three people.

The residents were protesting the alleged stabbing of one of them by police during the crackdown.

The three individuals involved in the protests will be arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts on Wednesday, November 6.

This incident is a reminder of a similar tragic event in September, where a two-year-old boy was shot at close range under unclear circumstances during a police operation at a chang'aa den in Kahawa West, Nairobi.
