YouTube has expanded its reach by introducing a comment translation feature, allowing users to engage with content creators from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Starting this week, viewers on YouTube mobile apps will see a new 'Translate' button below comments written in foreign languages. Tapping it will instantly translate that comment to their native language, with a 'Translated by Google' mark. Users can switch to the original version at any time.
YouTube has been testing this feature for the past few months, initially available to Premium subscribers through the Experiments portal. The company made Experiments exclusive to Premium subscribers in October last year and recently brought it to mobile apps.
As of now, the YouTube Experiments portal lists only one beta feature: picture-in-picture (PiP) for iOS. This feature allows iPhone users to watch YouTube videos while using other apps, with the video appearing in a tiny, floating window.
For Android users, the ability to translate comments is now available, and users can download the latest version of the YouTube app from the Google Play Store.
