On November 5, 2019, activist Bonface Mwangi visited Starehe Constituency, the home turf of Kibra Parliamentary aspirant McDonald Mariga, to criticize him for the lack of development in the area.
Mwangi, who had previously vied for the Starehe parliamentary seat, pointed out that Mariga, a former Inter Milan player, had not developed the Rum stadium where he used to play football as a young man. The stadium was still filled with rocks, Mwangi noted.
"This is the place that Mariga grew up. There is no development he did. If Mariga you haven’t done any project in your area, what will you do there? There is nothing you will do," Mwangi said in a video he posted on social media.
Mariga is one of the Jubilee Party candidates in the upcoming Kibra by-election, which is set to take place on November 7, 2019. Mwangi's party, Ukweli, has fronted Edita Ochieng' as its candidate in the mini-poll.
Earlier, Mwangi had claimed that Mariga lacked the minimum academic requirements to be employed as a cleaner by any company in the country.
