Kenya's volleyball scene has lost a stalwart with the retirement of Jane Wacu, a 36-year-old setter who represented the country in the Tokyo Olympics.
Wacu, who was part of the historic 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix win in Australia, has decided to take a break from international competitions to explore other opportunities.
"My aim was to do the Olympics then take a break to pursue other ventures and I feel it's the right time for that but this is not the end of me on the volleyball stage," Wacu told the Nation in an interview.
During her illustrious career, Wacu participated in numerous international events, including multiple African Nations Cup Championships, World Cup, World Championships, Grand Prix, African Clubs Championships, World Clubs Championship, and the Tokyo Olympic Games.
She also had professional stints in France and Seychelles and locally plays for reigning Kenya volleyball Federation National League champions Kenya Prisons.
Wacu expressed her willingness to mentor the young players and help them sharpen their skills to become better players in the future.
