Published on November 4, 2019, a Kampala-based mechanic has accused Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone of defaulting on a UGX 11 million (approximately Sh300,000) debt for car repairs.

According to the mechanic, who spoke to Kampala-based Spark TV, he installed a new gearbox, brake fluid, computer, and programming, front hub and bearings, fuel nozzles, plugs, and tyre repairing, along with labour charges.

Chameleone, known for his flashy lifestyle and prominence in the music industry, allegedly left behind a 'dilapidated' Subaru as security for the debt.

The mechanic lamented that the Subaru is in very poor condition, lacks an engine, and would not fetch more than UGX 3 million (approximately Sh80,000) even if sold.

The case has been reported at Katwe Police Station.

Chameleone, whose real name is Joseph Mayanja, has recently joined politics and expressed interest in vying for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat in the 2021 general elections.
