On November 3, 2019, Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga called for cancer to be declared a national disaster during a cancer sensitization forum in Embu.
Ndwiga emphasized the need for the national government to prioritize cancer treatment and allocate sufficient resources to the Health Ministry to effectively address the health challenge.
He also challenged his colleagues in the senate to rally behind the cause and push for the declaration of cancer as a national disaster.
According to Ndwiga, the limited resources allocated to the Health Ministry by the Ministry of Finance hinder its ability to effectively deal with health challenges, including cancer.
Nominated Senator Beth Mugo, a cancer survivor, urged Kenyans to prioritize early screening to detect possible illnesses early.
Meanwhile, women leaders affiliated with the Embrace Kenya Movement called for the establishment of more psycho-social support groups for patients with chronic and terminal illnesses.
