On November 2, 2019, a significant milestone was achieved in the fight against illicit trade as four high-end vehicles stolen in the UK were shipped back to their country of origin.

During a ceremony at the Port of Mombasa, presided over by Dr. Daniel Manduku, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director, two Black Range Rover Vogue Autobiography, a Black Range Rover Sport, and a White Mercedes Benz GLE were loaded into containers and shipped aboard MSC Levina.

According to Dr. Tere Saidimu, the Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner for Intelligence and Strategic Operations, Kenyan and British authorities have been working together to ensure stolen vehicles are returned to their country of origin.

‘We are today sending a clear message that the Port of Mombasa will never be used for illicit trade,’’ Dr. Manduku said.

Dr. Saidimu added that the Kenyan government launched an energized campaign to fight illicit trade, including heightened surveillance and enforcement measures at all ports of entry and exit.

British High Commission First Secretary Waqar Qureshi commended the support accorded to UK agencies by Kenyan authorities, stating that the Navcis, Interpol, National Crime Agency, and local UK Police from various sea ports around the UK have been coordinating to identify and seize high-end, high-value vehicles stolen in the UK.
