On October 10th, 2019, a somber mood befell the residents of Ndumberi in Kiambu County as news of the tragic death of a 21-year-old woman spread.
The woman, Fidelis Wanja, was found dangling from the rooftop of her rented house, sparking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to Damaris Muoki, a neighbor who witnessed the discovery, a friend of Wanja's had knocked on her door several times before seeking help from Muoki, who then alerted the authorities.
When the door was broken open, a note was found with the chilling message: 'I loved him until I died.'
Neighbours and the area chief, Christopher Gathuma, expressed shock and sadness at the young woman's decision to take her own life, citing the importance of seeking help and talking out problems.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the deceased's body was taken to Kiambu Level 5 hospital for a postmortem.
Ironically, the tragic event occurred on the same day that members of the public were marching through the streets of Kiambu to raise awareness about mental health, an event that had been postponed from October 10th to coincide with the public holiday.
