On October 25, 2019, a 13-year-old KCPE candidate was rescued from an early child marriage in a rural village in Kenya.
The girl, who was set to sit for her KCPE exams, was about to be married off to a 35-year-old man in a ceremony that was already underway.
However, the girl's fate was changed when a team of officials from the National Government Administration Office (NGAO) and the Children's Department intervened and rescued her from the clutches of her would-be husband.
The officials, who were tipped off about the impending marriage, arrived at the scene just in time to prevent the girl from being taken away.
According to the officials, the girl's parents had agreed to the marriage in exchange for a dowry of KES 50,000.
The officials have since taken the girl into their custody and are working to ensure that she is able to sit for her KCPE exams.
