On October 12, a tragic incident occurred in Soweto Estate, Nairobi, where a businessman, John Ouma Otieno, allegedly killed his ex-wife, Eunice Adhiambo, during a fight over a mattress and household items.

According to the police, Otieno had been married to Adhiambo for several years and had three children with her. However, they separated after losing two of their children, and Adhiambo later got married to another man and moved in with their two-year-old child.

On the day of the incident, Otieno went to Adhiambo's new husband, Eric Oloo, to demand his belongings, which he claimed Adhiambo had taken with her. A disagreement ensued, and neighbours intervened after hearing a commotion.

As the situation escalated, Otieno insisted that the mattress on Oloo's bed was his and demanded it. However, Adhiambo offered to retrieve the mattress from her old house's balcony, but a neighbour and Oloo's caretaker suspected Otieno's intentions and offered to accompany them.

Tragically, Otieno grabbed and dragged Adhiambo outside the apartment's compound, wrestled her to the ground, and stabbed her in the thigh. The neighbour, who is listed as the main prosecution witness, saw Otieno use the bloodstained knife to scare members of the public who attempted to restrain him.

Adhiambo was rushed to Mama Lucy hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Otieno was later arrested hiding in a rented room in Masimba area, Kayole Estate, and the knife was listed as an exhibit.

On November 1, 2019, Otieno was charged before Makadara law courts with manslaughter and denied the charges. He was freed on a bond of Sh200,000, and the hearing of the case is set to start on March 10 next year.
