Kalasha Awards 2019: Nominees Announced in Nairobi

The Kenya Film Commission has unveiled the nominees for the 9th annual Kalasha Awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in Kenya's film and TV industry.

The nominees were announced at an event held at the Imax 20th Century Cinema in Nairobi, marking the start of the voting process for Kenyans.

For the first time, two new categories have been introduced: Best TV Reality and Best Student Short Film.

The judging panel, comprising film and TV producers and media professionals, includes Linda Karuru, Fred Makori, Dr. Racheal Ng'ang'a, Kang'ethe Mungai, Irene Mukonyoro, Dennis Mbuthia, and Dr. Simon Peter.

Kenya Film Commission CEO Timothy Owase expressed his delight at the increased submissions, with 959 entries in 2019. He also announced that all winners in the 34 categories will receive a KES 50,000 cash reward, courtesy of sponsor Startimes.

Notable nominees include films such as Lost in Time, Hila, Plan B, and You Again by Neomi Ng'ang'a, as well as TV shows like Women of Steel, Jiji, Unbalance, and Story of My Life.

Actresses and actors such as Brenda Wairimu, Nyce Wanjeri, Pascal Tokodi, Eugene Mbugua, Eve'D'Souza, and Nick Mutuma are also among the nominees.
