Published on October 30, 2019, a report by Weekly Citizen revealed that Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja had survived attempts by ward reps to impeach him.
According to sources, the senators wanted to clear the case from the word go to avoid wasting taxpayers' money, which is why they went against the court order obtained by the governor.
One senator involved in the process openly stated that it was a 'witchhunt and revenge mission' against the governor.
The senate voted to reject all allegations of misconduct leveled against Samboja by the MCAs, adopting a report of the special committee that established none of the particulars of the allegations against the governor were substantiated.
A senator well-versed with the happenings expressed surprise at how the poorly drafted impeachment motion was allowed on the assembly floor in the first place, noting that it was drafted by a Standard Four dropout.
The committee report, chaired by Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga, stated, 'The committee has investigated the matter in accordance with its mandate and finds none of the allegations against the governor substantiated.'
The committee recommended that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission investigate three of the seven charges leveled against the governor and his administration, with a view to filing criminal charges against him if found guilty.
As a result of the senate's decision, the governor will withdraw his case, as it has been overtaken by events.
